5 Creative Ways To Put More “YOU” Into Your Wedding

Happy Tuesday!

There’s more snow on the way for New England today and I’m a rare one since I’m loving it all! I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend with your sweetie! Did you get engaged?! Woo Hoo…Congrats!

Let the planning begin and here are a few tips to put a little “YOU” into your wedding.

1. Table Names
A great way to make your tables stand out from the rest is to change the traditional table numbers to something that is uniquely yours. For example, are you a fan of reading, use your favorite book titles and/or authors. Or, if you both like to travel, how about the different places you’ve been too? Are you a wine lover, use the many different types of wines.
Check out this image from The Mountain Millers Dream Wedding that shows a special place this couple visited.

Or, how about these for the book lover…

2. Shoes
Nowadays, it’s all about the shoes! And, what a fabulous way to change it up. Your shoes could be you’re wedding colors instead of matching the white/ivory of your dress. For example, if your favorite color is purple & you’re wedding colors happen to be plum or eggplant, than picture a pair of gorgeous purple shoes peaking out from under your pretty dress!

Thanks to my friends over at Black Thumb Studio for the picture of my pretty shoes.

Need your ‘something blue’ that everyone can see. Check out this stunning image from Milton Gil Photography. {FYI…there is music on this website, so turn your volume down if your at work.}

I couldn’t resist this one from Niki Rossi Photography. I LOVE the different colored shoes and the flowers matching them!

If heels aren’t your thing, wear sneakers, flip flops or even cowboy boots! The sky is the limit!

3. Centerpieces

Flowers are definitely the most popular centerpieces, but if you don’t want flowers to be the main focus of the table, add something that you both love. Going back to the suggestion of book titles/authors being your table names, you could have old books as your centerpiece with candles/tea lights surrounding them. To add a little more flair, you could add a couple of bud vases {tall or short} in between the candles/tea lights.

Check out this stunner from Erin McFarland Photography.

If you’re a sports fan, especially a Boston one, use some memorabilia from any of the 4 Boston teams! Check out this one from Marrero Events for our Boston Red Sox!

4. Music
Music is certainly a great way to personalize your wedding and not just with your ceremony or first dance. When you’re being introduced into your reception for the first time, have something that represents you both. For example, one of my clients’ families both came from New York, the bride’s grandmother was a huge Sinatra fan, so to pay tribute to both their backgrounds and her grandmother, they entered into the reception with “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra. Are you huge Patriots fan? “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff would be right up your alley!
5. Signature Cocktail or Coffee Blend
Last, and definitely not the least, is to have a signature cocktail or coffee blend designed specifically for you’re wedding day. For your signature cocktail, take you’re wedding colors, a favorite or seasonal drink that flows or resembles your overall theme.

Thanks to Daisies & Pearls Merry Making for this great idea.

If you’re not a cocktail kind of person, but love coffee or tea, create a coffee or tea blend {yes, there is a place that does just that…The Cozy Tea Cart!} that is uniquely yours.

I hope these tips gave you some inspiration on how to add a little more “YOU” into you’re wedding.

Sneak Peak–Styled Photo Shoot

Happy Friday!

Happy Birthday to me!! What better way for me than to give you a sneak peak of the photo shoot I did in December that I’ve been dying to show off!

I collaborated with a “dream team”of vendors and honestly, I couldn’t have done it without any of them.…. the amazingly talented photographer, Brendan of Brendan Coughlin Productions, my gorgeous & super sweet models, Sarah Maillet & Dan Haggerty, the out of the box floral designer, Jason of Outbloom Floral, stationery genius, Celeste of Impress Me Designs, the linen extraordinaire, Jennifer at Perfect Party Linens, the stunning chivari chairs rentals provided by Ashley at Exeter Events & Tents , Scott at Entertainment by Scott Sica, who is the uplight guru that adds that little extra something to any event, and I especially couldn’t have done it without meeting Patty at Seaglass Events, who is the Functions Director at the exquisitely, unique venue of the Blue Ocean Music Hall located at The Pavilion in Salisbury, MA.

That day, when I saw it all come together, the vision in my head catapulted to exceed my expectations. The energy in the room was electrifying! I felt without even seeing any of the photos, they were going to be unbelievable…. I wasn’t wrong, if I do say so myself.

I designed this shoot with Sarah specifically in mind and I hadn’t even met her yet! I was lucky she said yes when I reached out to her on Facebook about doing it. She’s such a peach, one of my biggest cheerleaders, not to mention STUNNING and now, I’m blessed to call her a friend.

I was attending a bridal conference in Baltimore when I was sitting at the hotel restaurant bar having lunch & of course, a glass of wine when the ideas came flowing out. I couldn’t write them down fast enough.

I knew I wanted her in a red dress and showing off her gorgeous tattoos. I wanted to show that a bride can wear something other than white on they’re wedding day and still have a classy, edgy look to it.

I can’t thank my friend Tasha over at Deja Veil enough for keeping her eyes out for the perfect dress. I think she thought I was nuts when I first approached her about the idea of dying a white one red {of course, didn’t tell me that, she just said, sure why not!}. Thank god we didn’t have to go that route because this beauty came strolling into her shop. It was exactly what I wanted!

I’m still flying high every time I see these pictures & we’re already in the works to do another one!

Vendor Love — Tara Lynn Bridal

Happy Wednesday!

I just love it when a vendor reaches out to me and they tell me they love what I’m all about & how different I am! Always puts a smile on my face & I’ll be honest, I never get tired of hearing it. Anyway, enough of me being on my soapbox, I wanted to tell you about one of those vendors who did just that.

The fabulously talented Tara Lynn Bridal! Tara Lynn is a custom, handmade, eco-friendly wedding dress designer. Her philosophy is she “creates natural fiber wedding gowns because she cares just as much about the women who wear the dresses as she does about her creation. Every one of Tara Lynn’s brides is exalted in a natural-fiber, wearable-art gown that is as sublime as the bride herself.”

OK, so let me show you some of my favorites….

Isn’t the red in that dress just so unique & stunning!

I just love how that one is just so fun & dainty at the same time!

That one just reminds of me a Greek goddess & who doesn’t want to embrace THAT on they’re wedding day!

I’m always in awe of talents like this, especially since I can only do the bare minimum when it comes to sewing!
So, if you’re looking for a unique wedding dress that you design yourself, Tara Lynn Bridal is right up your alley! And, as Tara Lynn states right on her home page, “The woman who chooses Tara Lynn Bridal does so because, surrounded by the elements and people she loves most, she wants to enrobe herself in a gown that asserts her intrinsic spirit and compliments her best features.”

Tara Lynn Bridal is located in Sutton, Vermont, but ships throughout the US, Canada & Internationally. Check out her full site here for more information & other fabulous dresses! Than call me for you’re Coordinating needs, so I can see your one of a kind dress too!

{Guest Blog Post} How to Concoct Ideas for Unique Wedding Cakes

Happy Tuesday!

I’m pleased to bring you a Guest Blog Post from Sofia Angeli, who is a PR & communications consultant for companies in various industries. She brings her writing skills and passion for travel, culture, arts and lifestyle, including wedding planning and engagement rings, to the online world.

Check out what she has to offer about choosing a unique wedding cake…..

The wedding cake is more than just a sweet treat for the guests. It’s a symbol of unity, fertility, and good fortune for the couple. And, in terms of event design, it can be that centerpiece to wow your guests.

But, how can you come up with a cake creation that can be a conversation piece on your big day? As a couple, you’ve got to reach an agreement on the look that you want. You might be overwhelmed at the countless extraordinary wedding cake designs you’ll find online and in actual bake shops. If you’re having trouble deciding on the design, below are some ideas that can make all the planning a lot easier.

1. Get amazing ideas online

If you’re looking for unique inspirations for your wedding cake design, browse the Internet for some great ideas. If you find just too many options, narrow it down by focusing on the theme of your wedding. Type in the Google Search box all the keywords describing your event, press the Enter key, and you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Are you having a garden wedding? You can key in “unique garden themed wedding cakes” on the search engine bar for cake ideas that will give you the sweetest ending to your party. Browse through the creative concepts, pick some items that stand out in your view, and go from there.

Thanks to http://www.brides.com/ for this image.

Check out this one from Plan your Perfect Wedding:

2. Consider non-traditional colors, patterns, and shapes

A wedding cake usually appears extraordinary if the basic aspects of its design already veer away from tradition. If you really want to have a something really unique, it’s best to venture beyond safe hues or styles completely. Try novel shapes, patterns, and colors, but don’t forget to make it match your theme.

Thanks http://ruffledblog.com/art-nouveau-wedding-ideas/ for this gorgeous idea!

If you’ve set your event like your back in the Roaring 20s, ask your baker to make you an Art Deco cake complete with geometric shapes and metallic finish. Or, if you’ve got deep red and snowy white for your color motif and a strictly formal occasion, a towering black-and-white concoction would be a fitting surprise.

Thanks to http://www.pinterest.com/pin/197876977350263868/ for that inspirational 1920’s cake!

Thanks to The Wedding House for that gorgeous inspiration!

3. Choose a unique wedding cake topper

Perhaps the easiest way to make your wedding cake different from other couples’ is to choose a personalized topper that’s not the bride-and-groom dolls that you’ve seen on your grandparents’ cake. Be more playful by choosing a topper that represents who you are as a couple.

Consider rainbow-colored lovebirds, kissing koalas, or your favorite animal pair done in an unexpected color. If you’re fans of some TV show, movie, or cartoon, maybe you’d want a fondant version of a famous couple from it.

Here are some ideas:

Found these cuties on Etsy

You can also simply place your initials, but have them studded with Swarovski crystals, and the cake design will surely be a stunner.

There are a lot of inspirational ideas that you can grab from magazines and the Internet when it comes to wedding cakes. Just make sure that you put in touches of you’re wedding theme or your personality, and it will surely be a cake you can call your own.

Thanks Sofia for a great guest post!

Game On!

Happy Thursday!

If you don’t know, Bostonians are HUGE sports fans and if you know me at all, you’ll know, that I am NOT.  But, I do have to say, that I do love a good hockey game and the Bruins are truly giving us just that!

That being said, the game last night was a NAIL BITER!  Yes, I watched it, when I caught Game 3 during the middle of the 2nd period (did I mention I wasn’t a sports fan?!) and, quickly got sucked into it. The Bruins were leading the series against the Penguins 2-0 going into this game. Let me tell you, I was on the edge of my couch for the reminder of the game and than it went into overtime since the score was still tied at 1-1!

I watched intently the first overtime period and again, was on the edge of my couch, hoping they’d scored, but I just couldn’t take the suspense anymore, so off to bed I went, not knowing the final outcome…. Music to my ears when I heard on the radio that the….

BRUINS WON 2-1!!
…in the second overtime period!
I know, I know, what does this have to do with weddings, you might be asking yourself.  As I mentioned, Bostonians are huge sports fans & what a great way to showcase that part of yourselves at you’re wedding.
Check out how some fans showcased their love for the Bruins at their wedding…
Our neighbors at Dessertworks, located in Westwood, MA, created these two beautiful Bruins cakes….
And, Montilios Baking Company, located in Brockton, MA, made this masterpiece, in honor of the Bruins winning the Stanley Cup back in 2011.
But, going that “big” into declaring your hockey love isn’t your thing…how about some cute cake toppers instead?
And, because as you know, I am a SHOE LOVER, I just had to show you these…
Game 4 is tomorrow night….Believe me, when I say, I’ll be watching that game during our Friday night cocktail hour! 🙂
GO B’S!!
Are you a sports fan? How would you show your “love” for you team? Leave a comment to tell us!

~Cheers!

Vendor Love — Harrington Flowers, LLC

I had the pleasure of meeting Brad Harrington of Harrington Flowers, LLC a few weeks ago at his shop for a little chat. Than, got to know him better when he attended our Vendors 4 Vendors Networking Launch Party last month. I was completely blown away by the creativity that Brad possess and I’m counting down the time until I can work with him on an event!

I was in awe when he told me he created a shoe out of flowers(did I mention I LOVE shoes?!)….and, YES, it can be worn too!!!

Pretty amazing, isn’t it??!!

Brad was kind enough to take time out of his very busy schedule to have a little interview with me, so you can get to know this amazing talent yourselves.

Here’s what he had to say…and a small teaser of the magic he creates…

1. How did you get into the floral business?

I started in the floral industry delivering flowers when I was 19. It was love at first sight for me, I just loved the way flowers made people feel.
2. Tell me about yourself & your business?

I would go in on my days off to learn from the designers and slowly worked my way into a full time floral designer position. I have worked many events over the past twenty years from weddings to ring ceremonies plus other high end events. My passion is for weddings, as this is where my clients allow me to be the most creative and romantic. I would define my designs as romantic.
3. Where you located?
Harrington Flowers, LLC is located at 16 East Broadway in Derry, NH.
4. Your work is completely different from other designers, where do you get your inspirations to create such beautiful pieces?

I started HF to have the freedom to express myself thru my design work. I love to help people create unique romantic designs, using there ideas, colors and style. There is a language to flowers, they can express emotion and set a mood. That is the difference between a floral design and floral art.

5. Do you have a favorite type of flower? If so, why?

My favorite flower would be the hydrangea and that goes back to the many summers I have spent on Cape Cod.
6. Is it better to work with seasonal flowers?

There are many myths about using seasonal flowers to keep your flower budget down. I think, the person that came up with that, may be the same person that suggests booking your florist three months before you’re wedding. The truth is, products are grown all over the world and can vary in cost, due to shipping costs and of course, labor costs. Local products are great, but may be more expensive, as it is grown in a greenhouse… like anything in life, if you want quality, it costs more.
7. What should brides look for when searching for a florist?

When looking for a florist start with their online reviews and presence. Is their work online their own? Or is it a Tele-flora or FTD site. You want creativity from you’re wedding floral designer. Never book your florist on price, since price is something that can be adjusted or negotiated in most cases. Book the designer you felt most comfortable with, the one that helped you envision your floral designs for you’re wedding

8. What are your price points for wedding flowers?

Flowers have different prices and everyone has different likes and dislikes. It is hard to give a price for a wedding because we do not know what flowers the bride will choose until after a consultation. However, most of our weddings average around $2,000-$4,000 dollars.
9. Tell me about your favorite piece you created?
My all time favorite design was a floral vanity I created for a beach shoot. Check out the video here
10. Do you have a favorite wedding design? Tell me about it.
All my wedding work is very personal, it is impossible to pick or single out any of them as my favorite.

Thanks Brad for taking the time to chat with me & allow my readers to get to know you better!

Here’s more of his amazing creations:

And, my personal favorite…

I hope you enjoyed my little chat with Harrington Flowers, LLC. Be sure to check out his site & other amazing creations here.  Than after you call him, call or email ME, so I can help you create your vision right along side him!

Now, I leave you with a quote from Brad…

“Let me design something for you!”

~Cheers!
