Erin and Rob’s August wedding at the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts brought both. A Summer Wedding at the Boston Yacht Club
Located directly on Marblehead Harbor, the Boston Yacht Club offers the quintessential setting for a waterfront wedding in Massachusetts. Sailboats fill the harbor, salt air moves through the outdoor spaces and nearly every view feels distinctly New England.
Erin and Rob chose the Boston Yacht Club for its coastal setting and relaxed summer atmosphere. Their wedding design featured soft neutrals, light pink, white and sage green, allowing the natural beauty of the harbor to remain part of the overall aesthetic.
The result felt polished but never overly formal. Every detail reflected the couple and the experience they wanted to create for the people they loved.

Family-Grown Dahlias and Meaningful Wedding Details
The most memorable wedding details are not always the most elaborate. They are the ones connected to the couple’s story.
For Erin and Rob, that included the dahlias used throughout their floral design. Erin’s mother and a close friend grew the flowers specifically for their wedding day. The soft, full blooms complemented the light pink, white and sage color palette while adding something that could never have been replicated through a floral order.
These dahlias were more than décor. They were a gift of time, care and love from people closest to the couple.
Another detail that felt entirely Erin and Rob was Terry’s Ice Cream Truck. Erin loves ice cream, especially cookie dough, so including an ice cream truck was an intentional part of the guest experience from the beginning.
It was playful, personal and perfect for an August wedding by the water. Guests loved it, but more importantly, it made the celebration feel unmistakably like Erin and Rob.
When Rain Changed the Outdoor Ceremony Plan
The morning forecast showed only a chance of rain in Marblehead. As the day progressed, however, the weather shifted quickly.
By late afternoon, the Boston Yacht Club was experiencing a full summer downpour just as the outdoor ceremony was approaching.
This is the part of wedding planning that guests rarely see. Someone needs to monitor the conditions, evaluate the available options, make a clear decision and communicate the new plan to the venue and every member of the vendor team.
Waiting too long can create unnecessary chaos. Moving too early can mean giving up an outdoor ceremony before it is necessary. The decision has to be made calmly, confidently and with enough time for everyone to execute it well.
For Erin and Rob’s wedding, we made the call to move the ceremony indoors.
The Boston Yacht Club team, band, photographer, videographer and remaining vendors were informed and repositioned. The ceremony space was reset, the timeline was adjusted and every important detail was accounted for.
By the time Erin and Rob were ready to walk down the aisle, everything was in place. They did not need to direct vendors, watch the weather radar or manage the transition. Their only responsibility was to be present and get married.
The heaviest rain lasted approximately one hour.
Waterfront Wedding Photos After the Storm
Once the storm moved through Marblehead, the outdoor areas at the Boston Yacht Club became available again.
Erin and Rob stepped outside for wedding portraits with Marblehead Harbor behind them. The soft light following the rain made the water and surrounding landscape feel even more vivid, creating the kind of New England waterfront wedding photographs that cannot be perfectly scheduled or recreated.
Then the day offered one more unexpected moment.
Someone near the docks offered Erin and Rob a boat ride around the harbor. With the major logistics handled and the wedding timeline still moving smoothly, they were able to say yes.
The boat ride had not been planned or added to a carefully constructed timeline. It simply became possible in the moment. It also became one of the most memorable parts of their Boston Yacht Club wedding.
That is what good planning creates. It does not make a wedding rigid. It creates enough structure, communication and trust for the couple to enjoy the spontaneous moments when they appear.
Planning a Waterfront Wedding in New England
Waterfront wedding venues in Massachusetts and throughout New England offer beautiful views and an atmosphere that is difficult to recreate anywhere else. However, coastal weather can change quickly, even when the forecast appears promising.

Can the indoor ceremony space hold your entire guest list?
Do not ask only whether the venue has an indoor backup option. Confirm whether that space can comfortably accommodate your full guest count, ceremony setup and necessary vendor equipment.
Some venues have an indoor space that works well for cocktail hour but becomes crowded when used for a complete wedding ceremony.
When will the final weather decision be made?
Include a weather decision deadline in the wedding timeline. Moving an outdoor ceremony several hours in advance gives the venue and vendors time to make the transition thoughtfully.
Waiting until guests begin arriving can turn a manageable adjustment into a stressful situation.
Who communicates the change to the vendor team?
Your photographer, videographer, musicians, florist, rental company and venue team may all be affected by a ceremony location change.
