Wedding Shower Notes – 5 Hacks for Prompt Effortless Thank-You’s

Between showers with family and friends, pre-nuptial gifts from co-workers and wedding presents sent from afar, it can be a challenge to remember who gave what. With the big day approaching, the last thing any bride-to-be needs to worry about is making a mistake in thanking her well-wishers.

Keeping track of the gift givers and their offerings can be hard to do. It is not always effective or reasonable to rely on the matron/maid of honor for keeping notes. Planning strategies for tracking items ahead of time, means more opportunity to enjoy the festivities of the day without the post event P.I. work. Here are some strategies for making it happen.

DIGITAL RECORDINGS

Use smartphones or tablets to capture audio dictation of gifts. This allows you (or someone close to you) to create an itemized list by simply speaking into the device. This method cuts out the deciphering of typos and poor penmanship.

PICTURE THIS

Capture each present as it’s being opened using your photo or video option in your smartphone. This is also a great time to snap a picture with the guest presenting the gift. This make a very nice addition to a handwritten thank you.

PRIORITIZE YOUR RESPONSE

Whether you are a last-minute task maker, or a check-it off the list type of person, sending thank-you notes should be a priority. Instead of procrastinating on a response, answering each person’s offering with a short, but personalized, handwritten note is much easier to carry out when the event (and the gifts) are fresh in your mind. Purchasing thank you cards prior to wedding showers and other events makes this task effortless to begin.

SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Just as you do not enter into marriage alone, so should you not respond to well-wishers unaided. Recruit your partner to help in the process, making light work of the task. If your future mother-in-law wants to be part of the wedding planning, this is a perfect task to engage her participation.

LABEL IT

Prepare “make ahead” labels with guest names and addresses are an easy way to quickly track items opened at your bridal shower. Recruit a member of your wedding party to locate the correct label and stick it safely to the gift given by that person. An extra set of labels also means you can quickly address the thank you note envelope simplifying the process of thanking your guests even more.

While sending out notes of gratitude to shower guests and other gift-givers should be done within three months of receiving a gift, it is most important to remember that it is necessary to do it. Sending a note of thanks not only conveys your appreciation for the gifts, it also sends a message to the giver that their efforts were appreciated and added to the specialness of the day. This simple act of sending a thank you elevates your reputation with all of those who took part in your celebration. Don’t tarnish it!

Reflecting 2013 {Personal}

Happy Monday! And, what some may consider New Year’s Eve Eve….

I’m actually going to take a few days “off” this week to enjoy some time with my hubby & my family since without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

This blog is definitely a bit different for me since I’m not one who likes to talk about myself, but I also wanted share a little bit about my journey in the past year.

So, here goes….

What an exceptional year 2013 has been for me in many ways! After taking a leap of faith in 2012 {yes, I know that’s a little further back, but that’s where it all begin} by leaving what I call my “corporate” job to go to work for another wedding planning company, only to get laid off two months later, was heart-wrenching. It really took a toll on me emotionally & of course, financially, but instead of it letting it get me down, I embraced the opportunity. After some serious soul searching & the amazing support I have from friends & family, I looked at it as the Universe taking away, what were my two biggest fears; my stable, but boring corporate job & my need to think I had work for someone else in the wedding industry. It sure was a wake up call that I didn’t think would have a happy ending. To keep myself occupied as I searched for another job, I decided to jump into having my own business with both feet & not a care in the world.

The name Inked Events came to me in a dream {I know, crazy cliche!} and it really resonate with me, on so many levels because it really is true to who I am. I absolutely love tattoos and the beauty & story they represent. All mine {yep, have quite a few} reflect the story of my life, so what better way than to name my business that reflects me & truly makes it unique to me. It truly reflects my brand, that’s for sure. It has a classic, edgy look & feel to it.

I felt that 2013 was going to be MY year and boy, it sure has been. I have been building a solid name & reputation for myself as Inked Events and meeting some amazing people along the way. I’ve been so humbled by the experiences that I’ve gone through, in order to get to where I am today, that at this moment, I can’t even begin to describe it. I have learned from both the good & bad ones about who am I, what I want to achieve & especially, who is part of a very small circle of trusted friends. I am a strong believer that there are some people that will be there through thick & thin, while others, will only be there for a short time. I won’t lie and say that it’s all been a bed of roses since at one point, I felt like throwing in the towel. But, instead, on a hot July day sitting on the beach with one of those trusted friends, I felt re-energized by our conversation and set out to continue on building a kick ass business! I will be forever in debt to her for really, truly being there that day & many other days since then.

From that moment, I’ve been so focused on building a fun, solid & exciting business that my clients & vendor friends will be excited right along side me. I learn something from every person that I meet & I’m truly forging the path I am meant to be on. I couldn’t be happier with where it’s leading me.

One of my biggest achievements this year is being a mentor to my assistant, Natalie, who wanted to follow her passion for designing, but didn’t know where to start. The email she sent to me has changed us both for the better. She brings out my creative side even more while I’m teaching her the industry ropes. Exciting things are on the horizon for us!

On top of building a business from the ground up, I am ambitious enough that I wanted to give back to my fellow colleagues, so what do I do…. I launched a networking group {Vendors 4 Vendors} in March for them. It allows us to learn, network, relax and of course, have fun among our peers. With every event, the positive feedback about the group & what it stands for is so energizing that it’ll only continue to grow.

I will continue to learn my craft & be passionate about bringing my clients the fun, easy-going, positive, professional dedication that I stand for. I have a lot to be thankful from my journey in 2013 & I can’t wait to take on 2014 at high speed!

So, here’s to an amazing 2014….

…. because I’m taking it by storm!!! I hope you’ll come along for the ride with me by sticking around on all my social media platforms… click away to follow me…. Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest!

May you have a Safe & Happy New Year!

Who IS behind Inked Events?

I wanted to give you a glimpse into I am and what makes me tick. I’m Tracy, Owner & “The Tattooed Planner” (literally & figuratively) of Inked Events. The name of my business came to me in a dream because it really speaks to who I am & what I represent.

Three things you should know about me… I absolutely LOVE Shoes, Tattoos & Weddings!  And no, they are not in any particular order.

I’m a big believer that the universe sends you “signs”and that sometimes you see them and other times, you just might not be open to them.  After a difficult 2012, where I left my corporate job of 13 years to make a career change that would allow me to work for a more established wedding planner, I got laid off two months later. Yep, the universe was certainly sending me some BIG signs there! I looked at it that now, my two biggest fears are gone and I could focus on MY brand. The universe has lead me on a path that allows me to embrace my love of weddings & tattoos while still being true to myself.

I always wanted a tattoo and got my first one when I was 18 years old.  I’m now in the double digits with the amount I have of them.  I don’t “look” like the type of person that has any, so I’m sure it’ll be a shock when you learn just how many I actually do have.  I’m not saying how many I have here, so when our paths cross, you’ll be curious enough to ask me “how many tattoos do you have?”.

For that last few years, I’ve been getting inked on my birthday. I’m not sure how that tradition started, but I feel it’s a great present to myself. I put a lot of thought into each & every one of them since they all have a special meaning & story behind it.

I truly love when I see a bride show off her tattoos on her wedding. It’s such a representaion of who they are as a person and as a couple. Thanks to Allebach Photography for the gorgeous picture!

I even decided to show off mine on my wedding day!

When I was looking to find a picture from my wedding day that it was showing, I realized that my professional photographer didn’t capture many pictures of it! Thankfully a friend got the one above. My original photographer didn’t really “get” us, so on our 5 year anniversary, we decided to  have a “Take Two” shoot. My hubs & I are pretty laid back and definitely don’t take life too seriously. We’re just two goofballs! We love to laugh and make fun of ourselves! Thanks Black Thumb Studio for my gorgeous updated pictures!

I’ll be honest, I actually did plan on covering up my armband on my wedding day, but the universe had different plans for me.  The makeup that we were going to use wouldn’t stay on and it just didn’t look natural, so I decided to just scrap the idea and let it show!  I’m glad I did because it’s a part of who I am and should be shown off.

I see tattoos as a beautiful piece of art and they can really tell a story about a person, so that’s why I want to cater to the tattooed couple and be known as “The Tattooed Planner”.  I wouldn’t judge a couple who has tattoos, I’d embrace them!  Another gorgeous shot from Allebach Photography.

Shoes are my other big love. Yeah, I really do get all giddy about shoes and my closet is certainly full of different styles.  I was excited to find these beauties for my “Take Two” shoot with Black Thumb Studio!

Have tattoos and looking for the right planner for you? Call me, so we can chat on how to show them off!
