New England Weddings – Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

I’m always excited when a vendor asks to collaborate on a styled shoot, so when my friend Nancy of Makeup by Nancy reached out to ask if I was interested in collaborating on a styled shoot, of course I said yes! It’s always a pleasure to work with some of my friends to create a bohemian inspiration wedding styled shoot that was featured in Seacoast Wedding Magazine.

If you don’t know me {yet} I like to beat to my own drum and do things a wee-bit differently. So, when Nancy approached me to help design this styled shoot, she wanted me to put my stamp on it. I did my research on what this style represented and how I can add my twist to it.

The traditional bohemian theme focuses mostly on neutral, cream and pink color palettes. During my research and diving deeper into it, I found descriptions such as “eclectic mix of hippie, nomad & gypsy lifestyle with an artistic flair”, whimsical, mix and match flowers and dish-ware. Now, we’re talking about what speaks to me. I decided to go with the artistic flair and brought in that pop of color to the natural element.

I went with a purple, white and cranberry color palette. For the decor, I wanted to focus on arrows, wood, vintage and soft, romantic feel. All images are courtesy of the amazingly, talented, fun guys at Black Thumb Studio.

I absolutely fell in love with the purple ‘leafy’ and textured linens from Peterson Party Rentals when I saw them, so when I spoke with my new found friends at Free Range Floral about what I was envisioning for the florals, they fit right in. I told them I wanted a woodsy, colorful and flowy feel…boy, they did not disappoint and captured what I was looking for.

I did the stationery in-house since my one of my assistants, Maureen is super talented with graphic design!

We had to have a gorgeous bouquet to go with the stunning dress from Pure Bliss

..and a little something for him too!

When the florists mentioned they wanted to “try” out a floral wall as a nice background, who am I to say no?!

And it looks so pretty with the hairpiece….and check out Makeup by Nancy’s amazing job on the makeup!

Can’t have a styled shoot without a pretty venue to show off. We had the pleasure of the Ferncroft Country Club allowing us the use of their newly renovated space to capture these details! It was such a gorgeous venue and the grounds were absolutely stunning for pictures!

You can’t have a styled shoot without some yummy dessert. The cupcakes were graciously made by Nicole Locke at Bucciarelli’s Butcher Shop & Deli. Yes, they are more than just a butcher shop!

Lastly, when you think of “hippie”, you instantly think of a VW Bus. So, when Nancy found out that one of her past clients had just restored one, she immediately called Bud at Salem Five to see if we could use it! He graciously said yes….

OH WAIT, there’s one more thing….as with the weddings I am part of, I’m always about it being personalized. Nancy & I both wanted to use our family china to bring in the personal element.

I had a blast working with my vendor friends before the craziness of wedding season began and it’s always a good way to get the creative juices flowing! Allow all of us to be part of your wedding and you won’t be disappointed either!

Vendor Love — MLMart

Happy Monday!

I had a fabulous weekend of relaxation & helping out my friend/colleague Detailed Engagements with her table design for a great fundraising event, CHaD (Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock), to help raise money at their Storybook Ball. We designed our table based on the book, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and it looked spectactular & yummy! I’m looking forward to the pictures since I completely forgot my camera to take pretty pictures of it!

Anyway, now onto the main event of this blog…spreading the vendor love!

If you could’ve seen my expression and awe when I came across MLMart in my Facebook newsfeed, you’d think I was nuts! A friend of mine posted one of his pictures on her wall & I was just so captivated by his talent. So, being a bit obsessive about some things, I just stalked his page scrolling down and down looking at his work because I couldn’t take my eyes off it.

Here’s a little sneak peak of what he does….

Isn’t it just unbelievable!! How does he do it, you ask? Simple, really, or it is to him at least! He takes a high resolution digital photo, blows it up to really see the details & replicates it on paper with a pencil.
Did I mention he is AMAZING!? If you hadn’t figured out by now, I’m pretty passionate about his work. I just absolutely love it and want to share it with the everyone I can!
So, in my excitement, I just HAD to have one! I decided for my upcoming anniversary, I would have him do one for me. The hardest part was picking the picture, but I think I picked the right one. Mind you, I LOVED the digital picture that my other BFF Jeff Turner @ Black Thumb Studio took to begin with…..
So, when I saw this, I was COMPLETELY blown away by it….
This really is just raw talent that you don’t come across everyday! Let me tell you, it looks even more striking in person & I was a very happy girl when I saw it!! 🙂
As I mentioned before, I’m VERY excited about his talents, that I’ve decided to add this unbelievable talent as free gift to my clients when they book my Luxury Coordination service. It’s such a unique & personalized way for me to say thank you to my couples.
If you haven’t already, check out his work here! Even if you’re not one of my clients & want one, I’m happy to share and he’d be happy to have you as one of his clients!

Styled Shoots in the works!

Happy Monday!!

It’s pretty exciting over here since two styled shoots are in the works with the models that I wanted for them! I’ve pretty much been designing them with these exact models in mind & I’m SO excited they said yes since I’m not sure what I would’ve done if they didn’t! 🙂

The first one is schedule for July at the Pine Manor College with Leise Jones Photography. I’m thrilled to give you a sneak peek at my model, Danyelle Gibbs.  The details are still in the works, but I’ll give you a little tidbit…the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year Emerald will be involved!  Thanks to Kaitlyn Marie for taking these stunning shots of her!

Isn’t she just simply STUNNING!!  I can’t wait to work with her!! OH, and did I forget to mention that she’s also an extremely talented makeup artist too!! Check out her Facebook page Makeup by Danyelle to see more of her work!

The other one is going to be some time in the fall. Some of the elements are jotted down, but like the other one, I pretty much designed everything about it with Sarah Maillet in mind! Except with that one, I’m going to be REALLY going out of the box! The details will be under lock & key because I totally want the WOW factor to be there.  But, I couldn’t not show you how gorgeous & perfect Sarah will be for it!

Thanks to my friends over at Black Thumb Studio for taking this FABULOUS shot!

Thanks to Philbrick Photography for trekking up the ice in North Conway, NH to get these stunning beauties!!

Last, but certainly not least, the quiet beauty I see when I look at this photo by Focusure Studios!

Keep your eyes out for these fabulous shoots! They will be worth the wait!

Looking for a planner who’s fun, edgy & not afraid to go outside the box, call or email me for your wedding needs!

Vendor Love — Black Thumb Studio

Wednesday is all about spreading the love to our fellow vendor friends!  Today, it’s about Jeff Turner at Black Thumb Studio. Jeff is what I call, my “other BFF”.  I met Jeff last year at an Association of Bridal Consultants (ABC) meeting and I remember it like it was yesterday. Yes, he made such a great impression on me in an extremely short period of time.  I met him in the last 15 minutes of the meeting, when he approached a friend/colleague of mine to answer a question she had asked during the presentation.

I chatted with him for a few minutes before we had to leave, but I definitely wanted to set up a meeting to further our conversation. We connected and set it up for one of the days around my birthday! We met a Starbucks and let me tell you, it was the quickest & exciting 2 hours of my life!  I certainly didn’t feel that I just “met” him, more like hanging with an old friend.  We talked business, family, weddings & everything else that came up.  I told him about a photo shoot that my dear friend & colleague, JD Designs, was planning for me.  It was my “Take Two” since I wasn’t happy with my pictures from my wedding photographer. Jeff, without hesitation, offered to take them for me.
Couple of my favs….

With that being said, Jeff was kind enough to take the time out of his busy schedule to chat.  Here’s what he had to say….

1. How did you get into photography?

I went on a trip to Venezuela with my college. I completely fell in love with photographing people while I was there. I haven’t put a camera down since. I started shooting for my college paper and yearbook as soon as I returned. After college, I kept shooting as a hobby. I shot my first wedding in 2005. I went full-time in 2008.
2. Where do you get your inspirations for some of the shots you take?

Newest inspiration addiction: Pinterest. There, I said it. I also subscribe to Vogue and W magazine. And sometimes, I’m just struck with an idea.
3. Would you be considered the ‘photojournalistic’ type of photographer?

I think that term is over-used in this industry. I would more describe myself as a photographer, who captures what’s real with a twist of humor. I love capturing things as they happen. I also don’t mind doing outrageous things with my clients to get the shots no one else does.
4. Any advice you can give to couples looking for a photographer?

First, ask a friend. A referral from a trusted source is your best option. Second, read online reviews to check for consistency in performance. Third, meet the photographer face-to-face. It’s one thing to appreciate someone’s portfolio, it’s another to have the person with you your entire wedding day. Make sure your photographer is a good fit.
5. Do you recommend couples to do a first look session?

6. What is a first look session?

It’s when a bride and groom see each other for the first time before the ceremony. When done prior to the ceremony, the photographer has the ability to select the best location based on lighting and scenic considerations. This gives a couple the best possible images of one of the best moments of their wedding day. It also creates a more intimate environment for the bride and groom. It’s my favorite part of a wedding day.
7. What are the advantages to it? Disadvantages?
  • Feeling more relaxed by the time the ceremony starts
  • More time with each other on you’re wedding day
  • More time with your family and friends
  • More opportunities for creativity and locations
Things to consider:
  • Timeline may need to be moved up for hair/makeup
  • May need to do a quick touch-up prior to ceremony
  • May need to convince your mom it isn’t bad luck
8. How much time should the couple allow for photographs?

I’m going to keep this answer simple – the more time a couple allows, the more photos they have. Our allotted time has ranged from 20 minutes to three hours.
9. What are your price points?

Our basic package (which always includes two photographers) starts at $3,600.00. Full-day coverage with images on DVD and printing rights starts at $5,300.00. Perspective clients can even build their own package right on our website on our “Pricing & Availability” page.
10. Any advice for aspiring photographers?
  • Be honest about where you stand as far as experience and set your prices accordingly
  • Ask friends and family if you can photograph them to gain experience and feedback. Plan to not get paid initially.
  • Don’t ever stop learning
  • Get the best glass (lenses) you can afford
  • Network, network, network!
  • Expect a lot of hard work
  • Always have backup gear
  • Understand your costs, this will help you properly set your prices
  • Offer to assist photographers whose work you love!
  • Know when to say no to a job – balance is important!
Now, here are some of his favs….and of course, mine too!
Thanks Jeff for yet another great chat! You’re work speaks for itself, but I’ll say it anyway…IT’S AMAZING!!!
Call me, so we can schedule a meeting to sit down with Jeff and discuss what amazing photos he can create for your wedding!

Who IS behind Inked Events?

I wanted to give you a glimpse into I am and what makes me tick. I’m Tracy, Owner & “The Tattooed Planner” (literally & figuratively) of Inked Events. The name of my business came to me in a dream because it really speaks to who I am & what I represent.

Three things you should know about me… I absolutely LOVE Shoes, Tattoos & Weddings!  And no, they are not in any particular order.

I’m a big believer that the universe sends you “signs”and that sometimes you see them and other times, you just might not be open to them.  After a difficult 2012, where I left my corporate job of 13 years to make a career change that would allow me to work for a more established wedding planner, I got laid off two months later. Yep, the universe was certainly sending me some BIG signs there! I looked at it that now, my two biggest fears are gone and I could focus on MY brand. The universe has lead me on a path that allows me to embrace my love of weddings & tattoos while still being true to myself.

I always wanted a tattoo and got my first one when I was 18 years old.  I’m now in the double digits with the amount I have of them.  I don’t “look” like the type of person that has any, so I’m sure it’ll be a shock when you learn just how many I actually do have.  I’m not saying how many I have here, so when our paths cross, you’ll be curious enough to ask me “how many tattoos do you have?”.

For that last few years, I’ve been getting inked on my birthday. I’m not sure how that tradition started, but I feel it’s a great present to myself. I put a lot of thought into each & every one of them since they all have a special meaning & story behind it.

I truly love when I see a bride show off her tattoos on her wedding. It’s such a representaion of who they are as a person and as a couple. Thanks to Allebach Photography for the gorgeous picture!

I even decided to show off mine on my wedding day!

When I was looking to find a picture from my wedding day that it was showing, I realized that my professional photographer didn’t capture many pictures of it! Thankfully a friend got the one above. My original photographer didn’t really “get” us, so on our 5 year anniversary, we decided to  have a “Take Two” shoot. My hubs & I are pretty laid back and definitely don’t take life too seriously. We’re just two goofballs! We love to laugh and make fun of ourselves! Thanks Black Thumb Studio for my gorgeous updated pictures!

I’ll be honest, I actually did plan on covering up my armband on my wedding day, but the universe had different plans for me.  The makeup that we were going to use wouldn’t stay on and it just didn’t look natural, so I decided to just scrap the idea and let it show!  I’m glad I did because it’s a part of who I am and should be shown off.

I see tattoos as a beautiful piece of art and they can really tell a story about a person, so that’s why I want to cater to the tattooed couple and be known as “The Tattooed Planner”.  I wouldn’t judge a couple who has tattoos, I’d embrace them!  Another gorgeous shot from Allebach Photography.

Shoes are my other big love. Yeah, I really do get all giddy about shoes and my closet is certainly full of different styles.  I was excited to find these beauties for my “Take Two” shoot with Black Thumb Studio!

Have tattoos and looking for the right planner for you? Call me, so we can chat on how to show them off!
