TGIF Signature Cocktail — Easter Bunny

Happy Easter!!


Or, how I like to say, Happy Bunny Day!  

Easter Bunny Cocktail

Yes, you read that correctly, I found a drink to honor the Easter Bunny! This is the adult version while the kiddies are searching for those colored Easter eggs! And, boy, I think this is going to be part of my menu! 

I almost couldn’t believe found a drink called the “Easter Bunny” and shouldn’t have been surprised that chocolate was involved! Chocolate bunnies are part of the day.
Here’s what’s in the yummy treat….
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 ounces dark crème de cacao
  • 1/2 ounce vodka
  • 1 tsp chocolate syrup
  • 1 tsp cherry brandy

Preparation:

  • Pour the crème de cacao and vodka into a cocktail shaker with ice
  • Shake well
  • Strain into an old-fashioned glass with ice cubes
  • Float chocolate syrup and cherry brandy on top

Vendor Love — Peabody Essex Museum

I had the pleasure of touring the Peabody Essex Museum last week and got to meet the fabulous events coordinator, Natalia Laskaris. What a unique place to have a wedding!  I’ve never been there before, so I was in awe of what I’ve been missing!

They have a couple of gorgeous areas where a wedding can be held, the Atrium & East India Marine Hall.  The East India Marine Hall will be closed until 2017, while part of the museum is under a major renovation. The Atrium though, is still a gorgeous area to have a wedding. Its pretty much a blank slate where you can create a wonderland of you’re liking, but the building itself has such character! The potential in this space is limitless!
And, trust me, my pictures don’t do it justice or show the whole area! 
 
Natalia took me into the most amazing gallery that could be used for a small wedding, bridal shower, cocktail hour or brunch. It overlooks their Asian Gardens, which were covered in snow at the time, but the inside was just as amazing! There was story time in the main room, so I could only get a shot of the hallway leading up to it. 
This amazing staircase just kept going on & on, it just pulls you in (I so see a photo-op there!).
Am I the only one who sees a snowflake in the overhead glass ceiling?! 🙂
This beautiful detail awaits you at the top of the stairs leading into one of the exhibits.

I took a brief tour through some of the exhibits and will look forward to heading back to really spend some time appreciating the arts.  
I thought this piece was quite meaningful, appropriate & very interesting….
What is it you might ask?  It’s called “Island Bride, 2002” Created by Brian White, born in 1960. “The Victorian tradition of sailors’ valentines-intricate souvenirs and tokes of love made with shells-attains a new and witty heights in Island Bride. This assembly of found objects and hardware store materials also playfully alludes to the tradition of elaborately embellished bridal gowns and ceremonial garments.”

Got Ink?!

Back in the day, having a tattoo was taboo and if you were a woman with a tattoo, you were a …well, a not so pleasant word, we’re classy enough to not mention here.  Well, times have certainly changed!  

This day in age having a tattoo is more common and just a little more accepted than it once was.  Don’t get me wrong; there are still people who view people with tattoos with distaste and judgment. Sad really, because you really should “never judge a book by its cover”. Because, you just never know who you’re going to be talking to. Under their clothes they could be covered in tattoos; you just don’t see them. It doesn’t change who that person is, but there are people that will see the tattoos before the person.





When it comes to weddings, some couples will show them off proudly because each tattoo tells a story and is part of who they are, while others will cover them up. Either way, it’s a personal choice, whether it’s to respect your parents, family members or your church.  It’s all up to the individual.

TGIF Signature Cocktail

Happy Spring!

For some of us, it’s been a long time coming!  We’ve just experienced yet another snowstorm here in the Northeast a few days ago, and while I’m perfectly fine with the white stuff, some are definitely not. It’s New England, after all.

Anyway, I was thinking “spring” when I searched out a signature cocktail idea.  So, as I typed in “spring cocktails” into my search engine a few different ideas came up. The others I’ll be sure to feature and definitely try, but….

…This one, however, stuck out the most to me….

English Rose Martini

…why you might ask?…after reading the description, I couldn’t wait for spring to arrive!

“Enjoy this fruity variation of the martini as your roses come into bloom. Apricot brandy is perfect for the spring cocktails and in the English Rose it is accented with sweet lemon and pomegranate flavors.”

“An English Rose is a delightful variation of the classic martini. It’s sweeter, using apricot brandy, grenadine and lemon for flavor but it is still a great before dinner drink.”

 Ingredients:
  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz dry vermouth
  • 1 oz brandy
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1 tsp grenadine
  • maraschino cherry
 Preparation:
  • Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes
  • Shake well
  • Strain into a chilled glass
  • Garnish with the maraschino cherry

Vendor Love–Cava Muses Face & Body Salon

Happy first day of Spring!!

What better way to highlight a vendor that specializes in pedicures?!

I have the pleasure of having two jobs I love! I love planning weddings & events, but I also love having my nails done!  About 10 years ago, I decided to go to school to become a licensed manicurist in Massachusetts, so that I could do my own nails (at the time) and to always have a “backup plan” if I should ever lose my job.  Who’d ever thought it would happen!  Last year, I had left my “corporate” job to make the career change into wedding planning, when I went to work for another planning company, but then got laid off two months later.  

The universe had other plans for me and wanted to make sure I heard it LOUD & CLEAR this time around!  So, I decided to start my own business and Inked Events was born. Reality set in that I realized I also had to have some steady income coming in while I build my dream.  A letter came in the mail one day stating Cava Muses (a local nail salon) was looking for a nail technician to expand their nail department and to call if I was interested.  I immediately did!  I was honest and said I wasn’t licensed in New Hampshire & never actually “worked” in a salon before, but they wanted me to come in for an interview anyway. I met with Jenn & Lisa (my fabulous bosses!) with nothing but my resume & personality in hand. I felt so comfortable talking with them & really liked the salon….did I mention that I had services there many years before?! 

So, when they called me back to say that I’d make a good fit to their staff and offered me the job!  I can’t begin to tell you how EXCITED I was!  


So, in order to transfer my license to NH, I have the pleasure of being an apprentice to Jenn, where I get hands on training, do the required book work and get paid for making people feel pampered! 
It’s a pleasure to work with these fabulous women, so I’m a little biased with this interview since I want everyone to come experience what I get to do every day.

Enough of my babbling, here’s a little about the great salon I can call “home”….. 

1.    What inspired you to open a Face & Body Spa?

After working in human services and the corporate arena for many years, we decided it was time for a change. My business partner, Jenn had an interest in massage therapy and after completing the required coursework and licensing, we felt opening our own business would be an exciting and fulfilling venture!
2.    How long have you been business?

We are so grateful that in June 2013, we will mark 10 years in business.  
3.    What type of services do you offer?

We offer luxury, clinical face & body services: massage therapy, facials, advanced skin treatments, waxing services, body treatments, nail services, electrology and airbrush tanning.

4.    Where are you located?

We are conveniently located in the Breckenridge Plaza on North Broadway (Route 28) in Salem, NH.
5.    Do you offer any bridal packages?

Absolutely! We can customize packages of essential services for a bride to be to prepare for the big day.  We also offer private spa parties for bridal parties and other special events.
6.    Tell us about your salon?

Cava Muses offers quality spa services in a warm, comfortable and friendly environment. We have an amazing staff of experienced licensed professionals, who love what they do and are committed to offering all our guests a great spa experience.
7.    What should a bride look for in a salon?

Start by determining what your service needs are and the size of your group, than look for a salon or spa that can accommodate those needs and most importantly, that it is reputable. Make an appointment to tour the facility and speak with a spa coordinator to learn more about them to determine whether you and/or your bridal party will be “comfortable” there.

“Field of Dreams” Movie….Curious??!!

You might be wondering why this movie has anything to do with my blog post today…well, in this movie there is a famous line that says….

“Build it and they will come” 

That line has been popping up in my head at random times recently and that’s pretty much how I feel about my brain child, Vendors 4 Vendors Networking Group. I’ve been to many networking events and some have been great, but something was missing, while others have just been a complete waste of my time for some reason or another.

So, what did I decide to do after having a very inspirational conversation with Tina C. Hines about where I wanted to go with myself & my business. I created a networking event that would gear towards wedding professionals. Yeah, I know, I’m the over-achiever of sorts. It would be place where their paths might not normally cross, get to meet, learn from a fabulous speaker & just plain have fun, so….

….Vendors 4 Vendors Networking Group (“V4V”) was born!

Last Wednesday 3-13-13 (yep, that date had a huge significance!), was the launch party for that brain child, and yeah, I’m STILL flying high on the adrenaline rush! 
I had originally decided to do it only twice a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. But, the feedback that night was absolutely amazing that I decided to add another one in the summer.  My brain is in overdrive with ideas on what to do for both of them!! 

I Co-Sponsored the launch party with JD Designs, and we pretty much hand picked the majority of the people who were to attend it. But, after a few weeks, we decided to open it up to the public, so that attendees could share it & invite their colleagues. We were elated to meet more new vendors!

Did I mention I wanted it to be FUN?!…here’s a few of the pictures from the photo-booth we had….

OH yes, the craziness that surrounded the photo-booth was quite hysterical!

It was an amazing, fun-filled night! It exceeded my expectations on how great it turned out to be. The bar has been risen for the challenge to make “V4V” one of “THE” networking events vendors want to attend. And, a challenge that I accept with full force & excitement!

TGIF Signature Cocktail

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

This has been a fabulous week for us here at Inked Events! I’m still riding high from the adrenaline from our networking event on Wednesday night! So, what better way to end it, than to showcase the yummy signature cocktail we featured at it. The event was fantastic and everyone raved about this yummy treat!

CHOCOLATE ORANGE MARTINI
Now, doesn’t that just look yummy? I can tell you it certainly was! This creamy cocktail was smooth going down.  The chocolate orange flavor was just enough to give you that sweet chocolately taste with a little extra zing. We decided to add a Lindt Orange Chocolate truffle to the bottom of the glass, so we got a nice little chocolate treat when we finished!  
I honestly picked our signature cocktail pretty much based on the color “orange”. I found three different ideas based on that and this one was the winner!  It actually was an unanimous vote on it! 

Ingredients:
  • 1 ounce Godiva original chocolate liqueur
  • 1/2 ounce Godiva white chocolate liqueur (optional)
  • 1/2 ounce Creme de Cacao
  • 1/2 ounce Baileys Irish Cream
  • 1/2 ounce vodka
  • 1/4 ounce orange liqueur
  • 1 ounce half-and-half
Preparation:
  • Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice & shake
  • Pour into chilled martini glass rimmed with chocolate syrup

Vendor Love — Inspired by Steve & Black Water Grill

Happy Wednesday!!

Today is the 13th and boy, is it a lucky day!  We knew when we picked this date it was going to be “right” for it! All the signs were there for it to happen on this particular date & the universe certainly let it be known. And, now the night is here and everything has gone smoothly with all the planning!! It’s our first Co-Sponsoring networking event for wedding professionals.  I’m so excited that everything is set to go & the weather is going to be a gorgeous 50 degrees in here in New England!

But, we couldn’t have been able to do this without two of the most important key players.  That’s why today I’m spotlighting TWO Vendors that I love!

Steve Gamlin of Inspired by Steve is a fabulous motivational speaker that I had the pleasure of seeing a few months ago at a Chamber of Commerce event.  I was so inspired by him that I literally booked him on the spot for our event! See, the universe was talking to me than, when he’s schedule was open for it!

Steve Gamlin is an award-winning professional speaker, entertainer and author. In November 2008, he was awarded First Place in the Toastmasters District 45 ‘Humorously Speaking’ competition. He’s also a 19-year veteran of the wedding industry, a successful entrepreneur & author of the wedding humor book “Table 7, Your Centerpiece is on Fire”.

Steve has enjoyed life as a professional speaker, radio personality, special event DJ and stand-up comic…which ALL goes against the grain of his childhood as a shy kid with very little self-confidence.
Having enjoyed great highs and some scary ‘lows’, Steve now speaks candidly on all areas of his life, mixed with humor, to show that we can all discover and sing our own unique song.

I’m looking forward to sharing his inspirations and energy with everyone tonight!!

And, our fabulous host venue, The Black Water Grill has been ABSOLUTELY AMAZING with helping us make this event happen.  When I first approached them with the idea, there was no hesitation when they immediately said YES!  I’m so excited to bring everyone to my very own back yard and showcase a fabulous venue for a wedding, event or just a night out at their fantastic bar & restaurant.
  
I’ve had many, many meetings here because how I like to rave about it to people is ….. the food is fabulous, the drinks even better & the staff is amazing!  It really is my favorite place to go for any occasion; whether it’s to host a party or just a night out with my hubs or my girlfriends.  I’ve definitely become a “regular” there!

And, they just changed the paint colors downstairs in their private function room the “Molson Lounge”.  Will have to ask them if it was named after the beer?! Wait till our photographer captures some new shots for them to showcase it!!  But, here’s a look at what the room looked like before.

As soon as you walk in, it has a warm, cozy feeling and the energy there is amazing. You’ll feel as if you stepped into an old friend’s house for the night!

I’m ready to put my party shoes tonight and mingle with some of the best wedding professionals I know and will soon get to know!

Vendors 4 Vendors Networking Group

Happy Monday!

It was a fantastic weekend here and this week is going to be filled with some extremely exciting events! Our launch party of Vendors 4 Vendors Networking Group is Wednesday March 13th!  SO EXCITED!!

And, yes the date held a lot of meaning when we decided to have it that particular day. We’re Co-Sponsoring the event with JD Designs and we couldn’t be more excited how it’s turning out. Some people think that the number “13” is unlucky, but not with us!  2013 has been a fabulous year so far and it’s going to be amazing as it continues! We kept seeing the “signs” to have it on the 13th and hey, what are the odds that a Wednesday in March would be the 13th!  It was just  meant to be.

Some of the details…there’s a yummy Signature Cocktail that will be featured on Friday’s blog, so stay tuned….a swag bag filled with some goodies for early registration attendees, a fabulous speaker Steve Gamlin of Inspired by Steve, a fun photo booth from Hot Shots Photobooth Rental to capture some of the craziness that I’m sure will occur plus the music & video provided by a fabulous husband & wife team of Next Level Entertainment will be amazing. The Black Water Grill‘s function room will be transformed into a night of fun & coziness with some amazing lighting from Boston Event Lighting! The gorgeous linens & flowers from Exquisite Linens & Florals will be absolutely amazing!  The talented Jessica Pegg Photography will be capturing all the fun & details for us to be able to share!

Oh yes, we’re just as excited for this event, as Tom Cruise was in this “infamous” picture of him telling Oprah about his relationship with Katie Holmes. Our event will have a much better outcome than that relationship did!

I’m ready to put on my party shoes, show off the tattoos, be inspired and hang out with some of the best wedding professionals I’m honored to know.

TGIF Signature Cocktail

Happy Friday!!

I wanted to do something completely different, for me!  I decided to go “Vintage” and the first era that popped into my head was the 1920’s, also known as, “The Roaring 20’s”. It was the age of dramatic social and political change, as well as, for speakeasies, Prohibition and great music. So, when I researched cocktails that were popular back then this is what I found.

“Red Death” Cocktail 

During Prohibition they would disguise alcohol in any way they could since it was illegal to manufacture or sell it. The drinks certainly didn’t “look” like cocktails, but boy, do they really pack a punch! Now, looking at this pretty drink you’d never know what was in it!

Ingredients:
  • 1 oz. Vodka
  • 3/4 oz. Amaretto
  • 3/4 oz. Triple Sec
  • 3/4 oz. Southern Comfort
  • 3/4 oz. Sloe Gin
  • Splash of Orange Juice
  • Dash of Lime Juice
Directions:
  • Shake with ice
  • Pour into a tall glass
Oh yes, taking that first sip, you’d really think the name is going to ring true, but quite honestly, it doesn’t. It was sweet & tangy, but definitely a “sipping” kind of drink. Yes, it was strong, but the alcohol wasn’t overpowering that it couldn’t be enjoyed.
